Lesson three: Using as a song sequencer for Rebirth

  • Make your patterns in Rebirth, but dont't make a song. Be sure to stay in pattern mode!
  • Make a pattern in Buzz for the Rebirth MIDI machine. If you don't use the auto start feature enter the start command ar the beginning of the pattern
  • Now look at the columns 3 to 10. The description at the statusline shows the meaning of them. You can switch the current Rebirth patterns with these values. Simply enter the numbers of the patterns.
This pattern sets Pattern 1 of Bank A for Rebirth's Synth 1

You can change the current Rebirth pattern like you want. But Rebirth changes the pattern only when the old one is played till the end. Moreover in Rebirth you need to switch the pattern a short time before it should played.

This is a little problem for the Rebirth MIDI machine. The machine cannot send the pattern switch to Rebirth before the pattern is to be switched. This means if you write a pattern switch command at the beginning of a pattern in Buzz Rebirth will not switch the pattern if the Buzz-pattern is played. Rebirth plays the old pattern instead and switches then.
Because of this you must switch the Rebirth patterns already at the end of the old pattern. So Rebirth receives the pattern switch right before the old pattern is played to the end.

Here you see an example. The pattern switch commands are on the last row of the old pattern. In the song sequencer of Buzz you have to arrange the patterns so that the pattern with the switch to the next Rebirth pattern stands one postition before the Rebirth pattern is really played.

See the Sequencer Demo for an example!
